Technically speaking, it was nine years yesterday for US and it will be nine years tomorrow for Japan and Europe. And despite the number 5 in the name, it actually is sixth installment in the main series.
The game was set 17 years after the events of SC4 and because of that, many old-timers got replaced by their younger counterparts. Also, the main focus of the story moved to Sophitias children – Patroklos and Pyrrha.
The game featured total of 28 playable characters. Of the cast, especially Z.W.E.I. and Viola are standing out and are still loved (or hated, depending on who you ask) by many players. Also Dampierre and host character Eizo Auditore make some good impressions.
Fun yet not wide known fact is that SCV exists thanks to the effort of the community. A petition for SCV being produced posted on Facebook caught the attention of Katsuhiro Harada (Tekken series producer) and he promised to lobby on behalf of fans for the creation of the game.
Another interesting tidbit about the game is that the story development was outsourced to CyberConnect2, who is responsible for Capcom’s Asura’s Wrath. Originally, the story mode was designed to be 4 times longer, but the project was cut short due to time and manpower restraints.
The game was generally well-received and the sales were decent, even surpassing Tekken Tag 2.
