There is a man who’s winrate in Rock-Paper-Scissor is so high he became an undisputed king of European Reversal Edges. Also, he’s good in other parts of SoulCalibur 6 too. And his name… D3xus.
Nickname: D3xus
Twitter: @D3xusSC
Twitch: D3xusSC (Although rarely stream)
Birth Year: 1995
Country: I’m Swedish but I live in the UK
If you had to introduce yourself in three sentences to some SoulCalibur player who didn’t know you, what would you say?
Hi I’m D3xus, I’m a competitive Soulcalibur player known for my way too aggressive play style and usage of reversal edge. I enjoy playing competitive and challenging games of all kinds as well as debating people. I don’t like RNG nor team games because League of Legends is a trash game and has scared me for life.
What is the origin or meaning of your nickname?
There isn’t really any deeper meaning to it, in the past I used the tags “tonnis” as well as “wanab3pr0” but one day just went “man these are cringe as hell” and decided to change to “Dexus” however it was taken so ended up with “D3xus” instead.
How did it happened you end up playing fighting games?
SC6 is actually my first traditional fighting game, with the only prior fighting game experience coming from Super Smash Brothers Melee and Project M.
The story of how I got into SC6 literally started with my old roommate telling me he’s bored and that he wanted to play a fighting game so we started looking around together, in the end we came to the conclusion that we wanted to play one with 3D movement which narrowed us down to SC6, Tekken 7 and Dead or Alive. DoA was ruled out instantly as the optics around that game are just terrible and then we ended up going for SC6 over T7 simply because we preferred weapon combat over hand-to-hand.
Since then I kinda just stuck with the game because I enjoy it a lot, it lets me be competitive in a format where there is very little RNG or reliance on others, just you vs your opponent and I’ve made a lot of friends since I started.
Who do you main in SC6 and why?
My main is Siegfried and honestly I just picked him because I like greatswords, I didn’t even know what he looked like initially as when I started out I used to play with a CaS.
As I got more into the game however I’ve grown very fond of him as a character both aesthetically and gameplay wise. He’s really fun to play, deals a lot of damage and hype comebacks are a common occurrence due to his unique mechanics. He’s also quite strong and as far as I know have been so for the entire lifecycle of the game so far so I definitely don’t feel I’m hampered by some really glaring flaws or anything like that.
What is your opinion regarding SC6?
In my opinion SC6 is one of the best games I’ve ever played, the movement feels great, the game is really balanced (for the most part), the cast of characters are way more unique and interesting than that of any other fighting game I’ve seen and each character has a myriad of moves and unique mechanics which allows players to carve out their own play styles even with the same characters.
If you could change one single thing about SC6 what would that be?
It’s really hard to just pick one thing, but I guess the very top thing I would like for tournament/competitive play at least is to add a proper pick and ban system for the stages as some characters benefit way to hard from certain stages, this could alternatively be fixed by changing the characters themselves but I think this would be a simpler solution than spending infinite time trying to finetune all characters around randomly getting certain stages.
More broadly for the game itself it’s kinda split between:
- Fixing verizontals/make verticals be vertical and stop catching step
- Nerfing certain soulcharge moves that have almost 0 counterplay or require pure guessing in neutral
- Making characters more unsafe in general (especially for heavy hitting quick launchers or unseeable lows)
- Tuning down the ring out carry for some characters, especially on neutral hit
I don’t think any one of these are more important than others and would just be happy with any of them being implemented.
What you consider to be your greatest SC6 achievement and why?
My greatest SC6 achievement to date would be winning the SCWB EU tournament. Not only was it the largest prize pool I’ve won, it was also a rollercoaster of emotions as I got knocked down into losers bracket in the very first game and ran a full comeback against some of the best players in EU all the way to grand final where I barely managed to clutch it out against Aelz.
Thank you for the interview!
