Neon is one of the outstanding figures of (not only) the European community. Besides being one of a heck Talim player, he was also the director of SoulCalibur Without Borders event that took our community by storm last year!
If you had to introduce yourself in three sentences to some SoulCalibur player who didn’t know you, what would you say?
Hey, my name is Kieran, or “Neon” and I’m a competitive Soulcalibur VI player who mains Talim. This is my first fighting game that I’ve entered tournaments for and joined the community. Since then I’ve made lots of great friends and rivals to play the game with!
What is the origin or meaning of your nickname?
When I was a kid I came up with the nickname “NeonTalim101” (I was a massive fan of Talim). When I started entering tournaments I didn’t want to be that guy with the nickname of the character he plays so I figured I’d just go by “Neon”. Original right?
How did it happen that you ended up playing fighting games?
I played Soulcalibur 2 and Street Fighter 2 as a kid growing up with my Dad when I saw him on weekends. I must have spent hundreds of hours in the weapon master mode messing around on Soulcalibur. Since then I’ve always enjoyed fighting games though I never got too deep into them (I just mashed, didn’t know anything.) This changed with the release of SC6.
Who do you main in SC6 and why?
I’ve mained Talim ever since I played her as a kid in Soulcalibur 2. As a kid I was drawn to her for being a badass young character and I really enjoy her playstyle. I’ve played her ever since!
What is your opinion regarding SC6?
I absolutely love SC6. The game may not be perfect but my life has changed so much for the better since its release. I’ve met a truly great community and made friends around the world. I can’t wait to see where the future of this game goes!
If you could change one single thing about SC6 what would that be?
Remove Talim’s RE cancel! (and give her more stance transitions).
What do you consider to be your greatest SC6 achievement and why?
SCWB! We raised so much money for charity and put on an amazing show. But if you mean tournament results…
I’ve had the fortune of placing well in quite a few tournaments in my 2 years of playing. My highlights would be placing 2nd in Weaponmaster, a UK Major where I became the first person (I think) to knock HolyCarp into losers or 2nd in Brussels Challange Major edition beating out many French legends such as Skyll, DTN, and Kiradems.
Please answer a single question that you were not asked but you would like to answer!
Will I ever actually win a tournament again?
Thank you for the interview!
