If you had to introduce yourself in three sentences to some SoulCalibur player who didn’t know you, what would you say?

An XBL nobody who went to an MLG event and debuted by defeating top player Kayane. After that he was hooked and underwent a meme odyssey for the extent of the SC5 lifespan. He forged a name as the best Ezio player of the installment and has unintentionally maintained guest character supremacy in SC6.

What is the origin or meaning of your nickname?

It was my original Xbox Live name. I picked it on a whim. My name is Jimmy so my “gamer name” being Jimbo seemed appropriate.

How did it happen that you ended up playing fighting games?

I played many games growing up and there were always a few fighters lying around. My first FG I ever played was SF2 on the Genesis with my father. The next two to imprint on me were SoulBlade for the PS1 and Smash for the N64. I could’ve been a smash player! The Soul series attracted me most due to the swords and personalities. The only main series Soul game I didn’t own was SC1. Bring back Bloody Roar!

Who do you main in SC6 and why?

Haohmaru. Have you seen this guy? He’s voiced by the English Goku and has biceps larger than my head. He has what I look for in a character; Mid to long range supremacy and stellar movement. He also has a lot of room to play and be cheeky to get a rise out of the opponent. I played 2B before he released and Raphael before she released. I love Raphael as a smug SOB and 2B felt different and fun when I first played her.

What is your opinion regarding SC6?

Complicated. I love SC and I love the fact it brings us together. I dislike the netcode and on paper I dislike the how frames work in this game. More opportunities are created by cutting strings short and being -10 or something and then using a throw or some other intrusive 50/50 as opposed to being +6 and containing your opponent. I’ve since gotten over this piece of the game the more I play Haohmaru however. I still play it, so I must still find enjoyment in it, right? Also, the character portraits are outstanding.

If you could change one single thing about SC6 what would that be?

Make bursting whiff punishable. (Make X 66B -8 on block AT LEAST)

What do you consider to be your greatest SC6 achievement and why?

Winning TFC2019. It was my first victory where it wasn’t just a local. People were watching and I put on a good show. It was something that we knew was going to happen but needed to happen to cement my legacy. But also…I always wear some pride when I convince individuals to travel for the first time and see a new place and be with the community. I’ve done that a couple times now!

Please answer a single question that you were not asked but would like to answer!

Wow! Where should I go to see high level play and meet the community!
Go to NEC this coming December 9th-11th in Cherry Hill, NJ. Look up Big E Gaming. NEC is traditionally our “EVO” and you also don’t have to worry about any extraneous pieces of paperwork to get in the door! https://www.start.gg/tournament/northeast-championship-22/details

Thank you for the interview!
