Summary:
Boasts of some of the best attacks in the game for any situation but depending on the weapon state also has big weaknesses, especially without a weapon drawn.

Description:
The new antagonist is well-equipped and ready to save humanity with his Ultimate Seed (yikes), featuring some of the best attacks in the game and a unique weapon switching system. He cycles between a pair of short swords, an axe, and a shield and spear, as well as an “Almighty” state where he can use all three. Each stance has some outstanding moves but a limited playstyle. Sword has very fast attacks including an i10 knockdown punisher and other good pokes, ax has powerful mixups between a 3B launch/lethal hit vs the low attack throw muscle buster, and spear has powerful moves out of crouch, a long range lethal hitting projectile, a guaranteed post-GI attack/lethal hit. If that all sounds super strong you’re not wrong, but he still has to work to be in the right stance at the right time. In particular when he has no weapon out his movelist is incredibly limited and in this state he has to eat a lot of pressure, and he generally struggles against aggressive rushdown characters for this reason.

Strengths:

  1. several of the best attacks in the game
  2. very powerful soul charge (immediately switches to Almighty, gains new attacks)
  3. uniquely long range in any situation with multiple projectile attacks

Weaknesses:

  1. weakest character in the game hands down without a weapon drawn
  2. only has kick attacks in stance, meaning limited fast attacks and a shorter movelist in general
  3. added difficulty to play while managing stances and weapon states

Unique mechanic:
Azwel switches between his three weapon states either by using weapon stances with K, or by manually inputting attacks. When using a weapon attack to draw a weapon the startup is increased by 8 frames. For example, using AA in sword stance is i10, while it is i18 out of ax or spear (and leaves Azwel in sword mode). Soul Charge and certain attacks leave Azwel in Almighty mode, which gives access to all 3 weapons. A weapon state ends when using A+B or B+K (also called weapon art) attacks.
