Style:
Rushdown/Zoner
Difficulty:
Intermediate
Summary:
Controls space with great strings and curse mechanic to open up offense even more. Extremely good reverse ring out game. Limited lows and throws can make it tricky to open up the enemy.
Description:
A big man with a big scythe, the immortal Zasalamel’s unending knowledge and mystery lend themselves to an aggressive character who excels at attacking. His excellent normal attacks enable him to move the enemy on hit, and his great frames (even on block) means the enemy may not get their turn to safely attack or move. He also has a unique curse system that unlocks combo extensions and new attacks, granting even greater pressure within each round. He has several reverse ring outs that allow him to steal rounds away, even when his enemy has pressured him to the ring edge. His aGI CE is easily one of the best in-game as it immediately forces the enemy to change their offense when he has meter. Similar to characters such as Groh, his weakness lies in opening a keen defense against an enemy who knows when to attack, duck, or step versus his pressure, as his lows are a limited threat (especially without curses). At times pulling the enemy in on hit is also a detriment when fighting characters that would otherwise struggle to close the gap.
Strengths:
- excellent range and variety on standard attacks (6A, 3A, 6B, etc.)
- heavy pressure with strong frames on block and curses
- best reverse ring out pressure in the game
Weaknesses:
- limited ability to play keepaway
- weak damage overall, especially from lows
- low combo damage without curses
Unique mechanic:
Certain attacks apply a curse, shown as a purple ball floating around the enemy. Usually curses are applied on hit but some attacks apply curses on block. Other attacks will trigger the curses, even on block, changing the hitstun or blockstun properties. Curses do not carry over between rounds.
