Summary:
Extremely unconventional and tricky to read attacks including fast options from his back-turned or “blind” stance. Behind all the craziness he lacks some basic tools and damage.
Description:
EVO 2019 champion Yuttoto’s character of choice is a tricky one, utilizing some of the most unconventional looking attacks in the game to harass and punish the enemy. Voldo can attack from back turned or “blind” stance, giving him a different moveset with powerful fast attacks. He also can use his fast Mantis Crawl stance to attack from longer ranges and further mix-up the enemy. Fighting him requires a lot of character specific knowledge and in particular the ability to react to some potentially unintuitive situations, such as recognizing when he is in face forward or feet forward Mantis Crawl.
Strengths:
- very confusing and unique playstyle
- strong neutral tools out of both stances
- blind stance allows for greater tools including throw breaks and GI from back turned
Weaknesses:
- limited standard attacks (weak AA, BB, etc.)
- low damage from standard combos and block punishment
- unconventional attacks require lots of character understanding to effectively apply
Unique mechanic:
Voldo switches to his back turned Blind Stance either manually from certain attacks or when turned by the enemy. In Blind Stance he has access to new attacks and fast movement as well as standard options such as blocking and Guard Impact. He returns to forward facing after certain attacks or after blocking an attack.
