This Sunday, there will be 2nd Japan FG Devs Roundtable. Last time, we got a lot of hype & Setsuka trailer. What are our chances to get something this time?

As I wrote last week, on 1st Japan Fighting Game Publishers round table, SC6 got some spotlight in form of Setsuka announcement. That was pretty dope.

Now, let’s take a look how looks our chances to get something similar this time:

What works against us:

  • Hwang was released quite recently (2.5 months ago)
  • Okubo-san is not attending
  • Even Season 2 was not originally planned, so Season 3 is far from being guaranteed
  • Okubo/masuooyama radio silence about the event. They didn’t even give a like to the announcement tweets (including Bandai Namcos very own one)
  • The SoulCalibur feedback form was silently discontinued at the end of January

What works for us:

  • SOULCALIBUR official account retweeted the news
  • Harada-san is “Fighting Games esports representative” for all Bandai Namco fighting games
  • Last time, Setsuka was announced
  • There are hints in the latest DLC stories for more characters/story arcs
  • Murray-san confirmed last year he is collaborating with Project Soul and potential network update is looked-upon
  • Okubo/masuooyama are still officially listed as SC6 producer/director – no official position change happened (so far)

So overall, I feel our chances looks pretty grim. I will still watch the event and hope for the best, but my hopes are pretty low.

No matter that, I believe we will get our message in any case. Either there will be some announcement (or announcement of announcement) – or at least serious notice about SoulCalibur 6 future – and we will know we are safe for time being. Or there will be nothing… and we should probably get ready to wait for SC7 eventual announcement.
